What is La Place de Bordeaux?

La Place de Bordeaux is the historic distribution system behind many of Bordeaux's greatest wines. Rather than estates selling directly to merchants around the world, wines traditionally pass through Bordeaux négociants, who distribute them to an international network of importers and fine wine merchants.

The system dates back centuries and remains central to the Bordeaux wine trade, particularly during the annual Bordeaux En Primeur campaign. If you are new to it, our beginner's guide to En Primeur explains how the campaign works, and the 1855 classification covers the ranking system behind the Médoc estates.

Over the past two decades, however, La Place has expanded far beyond Bordeaux. Leading estates from around the world have increasingly chosen to release their wines through the same négociant network, giving them immediate access to established fine wine markets across Europe, Asia and the Americas.

What are the La Place September releases?

The La Place de Bordeaux September campaign, also known as the World Releases, has become one of the most important dates in the international fine wine calendar.

Unlike the spring En Primeur campaign, September is increasingly about wines produced outside Bordeaux.

Prestigious estates from Tuscany, Piedmont, Napa Valley, Chile's Maipo Valley, Mendoza, Ribera del Duero, South Africa and other leading regions use La Place to release their latest vintages onto the global market.

These are often the flagship wines of their respective estates, produced from exceptional vineyards and in relatively small quantities. Many have established international collector followings and are allocated tightly upon release.

The result is a fascinating few weeks in which some of the world's greatest wines arrive on the market almost simultaneously.

Why do international wineries use La Place de Bordeaux?

For producers, the attraction is Bordeaux's extraordinary global distribution network. A wine released through La Place can reach established fine wine merchants and collectors around the world without the estate having to build individual distribution networks in every country.

For collectors, it creates an increasingly global fine wine marketplace. Bordeaux might provide the infrastructure, but the wines themselves can come from vineyards thousands of kilometres away. We hold our allocations in bond and deliver across the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy and Spain.

It is this combination of historic Bordeaux distribution and world-class international terroirs that has made the September campaign so interesting.

La Place de Bordeaux 2026 Releases

We'll add the 2026 September releases below as they are announced, including available vintages, critic scores, pricing and links to individual offers.

The important question isn't simply which wines are being released. We'll also be looking closely at quality, vintage, release price and value compared with previous vintages already available on the market. Our In Bond prices are quoted before duty and VAT, so release prices can be compared directly against the open market.

With dozens of prestigious wines appearing within a few weeks, not every new release automatically represents a compelling buy. Our aim is to highlight the wines we believe genuinely deserve a place in the cellar.

Wines bought on release can be held in professional bonded storage or delivered when you are ready. See how to order and arrange delivery for details.
